Listening to the sound of the whistle blow from the Go train this morning reminded me of an article in the paper from an irate citizen complaining about the noise waking up those people at 5:30 in the morning. Later in the morning as I was having my coffee I read an article from the Barrie Examiner archives which told of the indignity Barrie suffered by being bypassed by the railway in favour of the hamlet of Allendale.

So this never ending love - hate relationship with trains and Barrie started way back in 1864 and continues to this day.  Ironic that originally Barrie was “miffed” that the train didn’t come to Barrie, and today, over a 130 years later, there are still people trying to get the train to go back to its original station located in Allendale.

This is a very Interesting relationship that Barrie continues to have with trains, will Barrie ever resolve its relationship or will this continue for another century or two before Barrie is truly happy with its trains?
